Description: Spectacular Victorian taxidermy specimen of a Paradise Wydah bird. Naturalistic setting with subtle painted backdrop to compliment. Case is three sided glass and of waxed pine construction. William Hope of 44 George Street, Edinburgh was taxidermist to the university museum.
Male Paradise Wydah birds are often called Widow birds due to their long veil-like black tail. The tail is breeding plumage and is grown then molted three times a year, the rest of which they look like ordinary brown sparrows.
