Description: The school of taxidermists that appeared in the north-east of England towards the end of the 19th century featured their specimens in cases that were entirely devoide of decoration. The idea was to focus attention on creature itselff without any distraction. Two of the top exponents of this kind of work were Duncan and Cullingford. This splendidly mounted Goosander is the work of Robert Duncan (1837-1909).
